Intuition

I think Intuition gets a bad name.

After all, intuition is just the use of knowledge you didn’t know you had. The skeptic gave me that tidbit, because he did not want to believe that there was something more to intuition, something intangible and perhaps immeasurable that is applied at seemingly random points and is expressed through hunches, feelings, and perhaps, mini premonitions.

I wear the mantle of an intuit proudly but refuse to be type cast, as there are times that pure logic must prevail (although rarely).

Intuition plays out in so many ways – developing accurate impressions of people or ideas quickly; generating inspirational thoughts that seem to come from nowhere; or saying the right thing at the right time to convey a specific message. The problem with intuition is its strength – there is no way to quantify its existence and yet, we know it’s real.

For me, intuition works best when internal judgment or assessment is silent, so that the ideas and creativity can flow freely.  All people have strong intuitions, but most choose to submerge their impulses in fear of external judgment – too bad. I believe that we, as a society, intuitively realize that the world’s ecology has been damaged, but our rational mind protects us from that reality in order to allow us to live our lives in relative happiness. After all, if we really comprehended the vastness of the destruction inflicted on the planet we would cower in a corner and begin waiting for the bitter end.
